POPS’ Famous Brand Whisky is a proprietary blend of carefully selected individual barrels of Corn Whisky aged 6 years & Rye whisky aged 22 years, distilled, aged and unadulterated in Quebec, Canada.
These barrels are shipped down to our home at Acre Distilling in Fort Worth, Texas, where we meticulously dump and blend them to taste in batches of no more than 400 cases at a time.
We proof down to 42% ABV with Texas limestone water. That’s it. No Sugar, No Glycerine, No Flavorings. Just three ingredients and zero additives.

“This is a subtle drinking whiskey with delicate features, but a thoughtful display of structure. It's bright at the end, showing fresh citrus over the soft base sweetness with a spicy rye tingle on the back end...Everything I’d want in an old-school Canadian whisky

POPS’ Famous Brand Whisky is a legacy brand, born out of a desire to celebrate family heritage, honesty, integrity, and all of life’s moments by delivering an exceptional whisky at a price that does not discriminate.
The story of POPS’ Whisky begins when Alfonso “Pops” Haro – a tomato farmer from Pulpi, Spain, immigrated through Ellis Island arriving into the US the same year Prohibition became law. New to the country, not a word of English spoken, he was quickly assigned to the steel mills in Philadelphia, then inland to East Chicago. A man of few words, but a fierce work ethic, he was known to enjoy a drink after a long day of work. He quickly acquired a fond taste for the only whisky ‘readily’ available, Canadian Whisky, and would often say that there was never a language barrier, nor was he ever alone with a glass of whisky in his hand.
Over 23 years, he saved enough money to open a small family diner, 4 lane bowling alley, and an infamous card room, calling it the Hamlet Cafe & Haro Lanes in 1943. Pops would always have his special bottle – often hidden in the burlap coffee bean sack – of his personal blend of his favorite Canadian Whiskies, the label having been scratched off and the bottle non descriptive, as the restaurant wasn't allowed to sell liquor. Regular patrons knew it only as Pops’ bottle, and if they were comfortable enough with Al and Angie, they would ask for a glass of Pops’ Whisky.
My father and his two brothers grew up in the restaurant contributing daily, and until they were in their teens, would simply assume that POPS’ Whisky was just some ‘famous brand’, as it was ordered quite often by the local clientele. The brand was born.
In 2019, dad beat a nasty bout of stage 4 cancer, and ‘selfishly’, to gain any chance to spend as much time as I could with him, I dedicated every resource I had to (re)launch the storied family brand. The affinity for easy, every day sipping Canadian Whisky having been passed down, the intent was to craft a whisky without modern day adulteration - zero additives, no flavorings - similar to a profile that would have been enjoyed by his Pops in the 1920’s. After many months of searching, Pops and I found a source with exceptional barrels of single grain whiskies – corn and rye – aged 6 to 22 years, from Quebec, Canada. After months of samples, blends, side by sides, and blind tastes, I knew we had our blend when Pops took a long sip of the sample, looked up at us with that amazing smile, and said, "ahh, just the way once was!" We had those barrels shipped, unadulterated, to Acre Distilling in Fort Worth, Texas, where we dumped, blended to taste, proofed to 42% with Texas limestone water, and bottled on site in Fort Worth. Though Pops left us in March of 2024, we know he’s working just as hard wherever he is, and as he would always say, we hope you enjoy this whisky as much as we enjoy making it…of course, all while celebrating everything…tastefully! -Scottie Haro Owner/Founder/Pops’ Son
